The Seven Dimensions of Peace

The IIPT concept of peace

Peace is more than the absence of war

At IIPT, peace has always meant more than the absence of war. It is something we build every day: within ourselves, with one another, in our communities and institutions, with the earth, and through our sense of purpose. Travel touches every one of these. The seven dimensions below show how each journey, and every traveler and host, can help create a more peaceful world.

IIPT’s Seven Dimensions of Peace: Inner Peace, Interpersonal Peace, Community Peace, Cultural & Heritage Peace, Environmental Peace, Institutional Peace and Spiritual Peace, arranged around a peace symbol.
  1. 01

    Inner Peace

Travel gives us space to pause, reflect and return home more balanced.

  2. 02

    Interpersonal Peace

Every meeting between traveler and host is a chance to build empathy and respect.

  3. 03

    Community Peace

Responsible tourism supports local livelihoods and gives communities a shared stake in their future.

  4. 04

    Cultural & Heritage Peace

Respecting other cultures and histories helps protect the heritage that makes each place unique.

  5. 05

    Environmental Peace

Caring for the places we visit keeps the earth healthy for generations to come.

  6. 06

    Institutional Peace

Fair policies, ethical business and accountable systems make tourism a trusted force for good.

  7. 07

    Spiritual Peace

Travel can renew our sense of purpose and faith, and remind us to treat others as we wish to be treated.

Peace Begins with the Individual

The seven dimensions are connected: each one strengthens the others, and all of them begin with the individual. That is why IIPT invites every traveler and host to become an Ambassador for Peace.
